When were Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu merged into a single Union Territory?

January 26, 2020

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu were merged into a single Union Territory on January 26, 2020, to improve administrative efficiency and governance. Before the merger, they were two separate Union Territories, but due to their small size and proximity, the Indian government decided to combine them into one entity. The capital of the newly merged Union Territory is Daman, and it is governed by an Administrator appointed by the President of India. This reorganization aimed to streamline administration, reduce bureaucratic costs, and enhance development in the region while preserving its unique Portuguese cultural heritage and coastal economy.
