Who is the chief administrator of a Union Territory?

Lieutenant Governor (LG) or Administrator

The chief administrator of a Union Territory (UT) is either a Lieutenant Governor (LG) or an Administrator, depending on the UT’s governance structure. In UTs with legislative assemblies like Delhi, Puducherry, and Jammu & Kashmir, a Lieutenant Governor is appointed by the President of India to oversee administration and work alongside the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers. In UTs without legislatures, such as Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, an Administrator appointed by the President directly governs the territory. The LG or Administrator represents the central government, ensuring that policies and governance align with the Indian Constitution and Union Government directives.
