Which Indian states have their own legislature?

All 28 states

All 28 Indian states have their own legislature, which is responsible for making laws, governance, and administration at the state level. Most states have a unicameral legislature, consisting of a Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha), where Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are elected by the people. Some states, like Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh, have a bicameral legislature, which includes a Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and a Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad). The Chief Minister and the State Government function under the legislature’s authority, while the Governor, appointed by the President of India, serves as the constitutional head of the state. These legislatures operate under the Indian Constitution and have powers over subjects listed in the State List and Concurrent List.
